A Bold Vision for a Cleaner Kampala: Nakuya’s Garbage Awareness Campaign
In a city grappling with mounting waste challenges, Aidah Nakuya, a formidable contender for the Kampala Central Parliamentary seat, has unveiled an ambitious plan to tackle one of the constituency’s most pressing issues: garbage disposal and recycling.
Nakuya, a former youth councillor deeply rooted in the heart of Kampala Central, believes that sustainable environmental change starts with grassroots behavior modification. She aims to lead a comprehensive community awareness drive, emphasizing the importance of proper waste management and recycling.
But here’s where it gets controversial: Nakuya argues that civic participation is just as crucial as the logistical efforts of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). She vows to personally spearhead campaigns, educating residents on responsible waste handling and the benefits of recycling.
“I will take it upon myself as MP to ensure that every resident understands the impact of their actions on our environment. The city’s garbage crisis persists due to a lack of awareness and civic engagement,” she asserts.
And this is the part most people miss: Nakuya believes that environmental cleanliness, drainage maintenance, and recycling initiatives can only thrive through active collaboration between leaders and communities.
With the 2026 General Election approaching, Nakuya presents herself as a candidate dedicated to practical, community-driven solutions. Her experience in mobilizing communities and her deep connections within Kampala Central position her as a strong advocate for tackling the city’s waste crisis.
The Democratic Forum (DF), known for recruiting candidates with proven capacity and local connections, seems to have found a perfect fit in Nakuya.
“DF seeks individuals who are not just capable but also deeply rooted in their communities. The people of Kampala Central know me, my capabilities, and my track record as a youth councillor,” she says with confidence.
As the race for the Kampala Central seat intensifies, Nakuya’s pledge to lead a comprehensive garbage awareness drive showcases her commitment to addressing the city’s everyday challenges.
