A critical health journey awaits Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, 78, as he embarks on a trip to the United Kingdom for a pancreatic cancer examination and family time. The High Court has granted his request for a temporary passport release, but with some intriguing conditions and restrictions.
Judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin approved the application, allowing Muhyiddin to travel from December 8, 2025, to January 5, 2026. However, there’s a twist: the passport’s return date has been adjusted, and Muhyiddin’s solicitor will receive it on the day of departure, not immediately.
But here’s where it gets controversial… Muhyiddin had planned a lengthy stopover in Dubai, but the judge saw no justification for this, limiting it to just one or two days.
Judge Noor Ruwena highlighted the potential risks of such actions, stating, “This could open the floodgates for similar applications.”
And this is the part most people miss… Muhyiddin’s previous applications for passport release have been granted multiple times, including for family events and medical consultations.
His counsel, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, explained that Muhyiddin intends to spend time with his grandchildren in the UK and then travel to Madrid to be with his wife and family.
The prosecution, represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat, agreed with the UK treatment application but objected to the Madrid visit, fearing it would set a precedent.
In the end, the judge allowed the application but trimmed the travel window, ensuring Muhyiddin’s passport was returned promptly.
So, what do you think? Is this a fair decision, or does it raise concerns about potential abuse of the system? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
