Fabio Wardley Reacts to Oleksandr Usyk Vacating WBO Belt | Boxing News

The boxing world is abuzz with controversy as WBO heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley expresses his confusion over Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to vacate the title. Wardley, who earned his shot at the belt with an impressive victory over Joseph Parker, is left scratching his head over Usyk’s move.

“It’s a strange situation,” Wardley tells Sky Sports News. “I’m not sure what Usyk’s plans are. Is he retiring? Pursuing a different fight? We’re seeing a lot of fighters making unexpected career moves these days, whether it’s transitioning to other sports or taking breaks and returning. Usyk’s decision to give up the belt after being granted an extension is certainly intriguing.”

But here’s where it gets even more interesting. Wardley is set to defend his WBO heavyweight title early next year, and when asked about the possibility of facing former champion Anthony Joshua, he welcomes the challenge. “I’m open to any opportunity,” he says. “I’ve always believed in taking on the biggest fights, and if that means facing Joshua, it would be an honor.”

However, Joshua’s immediate future involves a surprising matchup with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami. Originally scheduled to face Gervonta Davis, Paul’s fight was canceled due to a civil lawsuit, and Joshua stepped in as a replacement.

“From a professional standpoint, you want to challenge yourself against the best,” Wardley explains, understanding Joshua’s decision. “But from a financial perspective, I get it. When a lucrative offer presents itself, most people would say yes. For AJ, Jake Paul is probably seen as an easy win, a quick paycheck. It’s an opportunity too good to pass up.”

So, what do you think? Is Joshua making a smart move or sacrificing his legacy for a quick payday? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
