The area, once known for its brickworks, will now be home to a stadium with a unique feature – 12 chimneys! These chimneys, built from reclaimed bricks, are not just for show. They’re an integral part of the stadium’s ventilation system, designed to channel sound and prevent noise pollution. One chimney even houses a lift to the highest bar in Birmingham, offering a unique experience for visitors.
The stadium’s architecture is a true reflection of Birmingham’s spirit. Heatherwick Studio, making their Birmingham debut, will handle the architecture, structure, and interior design, ensuring the stadium becomes an iconic landmark. Manica, currently working on the San Siro replacement in Milan, will lead the functional design, creating a seating bowl and layouts that will make matchdays unforgettable.
And this is the part most people miss… The stadium’s design goes beyond just sports. With a retractable roof and a moveable pitch, it can host a variety of events, from American football to music concerts. It’s a true multi-purpose arena, bringing the community together for more than just football.
The club’s CEO, Tom Wagner, and joint boss of Knighthead, an US investment firm, believe this stadium will be a game-changer.
